I'm new

Going to a new place full of people you may have never met can seem threatening.  Here is a quick summary of what happens at Baldwin Baptist on a regular basis.  We are casual and laid-back and would love for you to be our guest at any time.  Please know that you are welcome and that we are thrilled to have you here.

Sunday morning

We always welcome guests at Baldwin Baptist Church.  Please know that we would love to answer any question you may have concerning our ministries.  On the Shore Street side of our building, to the left of the front door if you are facing the complex from the main street, is a row of guest parking spots.  We invite you to park here and to enter the nearest door to your car.  Underneath the covered walkway, at the entrance to our small group complex, someone will greet you and help you to find a group to join for the morning.  You will find men dressed in suits, coats and ties, and you will also find them wearing pants and golf shirts.  Ladies may be wearing dresses or pants.  We have young people who arrive in blue jeans or shorts.  We have no dress code and will never turn anyone away because of their attire.  We ask only that you dress modestly.  We are happy to have you here, regardless of what you may be wearing.

We welcome children of any age and are well equipped to care for them.  We will first accompany you to your child’s class and help little ones to become acclimated.  Please be prepared with a cell phone set to “vibrate only” mode.  Our leaders will ask for your number and will text you with any needs concerning your child.

We will then help you to find a group of adults who share the same needs and struggles as you and introduce you to them.  You will join them for a one-hour study of God’s word in a small group setting.  Our small groups begin at 9:45 am.

Immediately following our Sunday morning small group time is our Sunday morning time of worship.  In the interim between these times, you are welcome to check on children if you would like.  If you have left prior instructions, their leaders will escort them to the places where they will spend our worship hour.  Small children will be in our nursery, while older ones will join our leaders for children’s church.  You are welcome to drop by and see these groups in action, as well.

From 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, we will all gather in our worship center for worship through music, prayer, giving, and study of God’s word.  You will not be required or coerced to participate in any way during this time.  No one will ask you to introduce yourself, raise your hand, pray, or anything else of a public nature.  We are a friendly bunch and someone will inevitably greet you and tell you that we are thrilled that you chose to join us, but they will require no more than a smile and a greeting in return.  We will worship Christ, our savior, by singing, praying and giving to our church.  Again, you will not be required to participate in any way.  If you wish to come and simply observe, that will be perfectly fine.

At approximately 11:30, our pastor, Scott Brown, will share a message from God’s word.  We will often offer a short window of time when your response to God’s leadership is welcome, but you will not be compelled in any way to do so outside of Christ’s leadership in your heart.

At the conclusion of this time, we will pray and Pastor Scott will greet anyone who wishes to see or speak to him.  You may, at this time, collect your children and proceed about your day.  If someone comes to retrieve a child other than the person who brought them, we will call the cell phone number given to us earlier to ensure that they have possession of this phone and are authorized to retrieve the child.  Therefore, please ensure that alternate caregivers are given the phone before they retrieve children.  Obviously, this phone will need to be kept from any person who is unauthorized to take your children.  If this process is not suitable, please make arrangements with the children’s leaders in advance.  We respect you as a parent and value your child’s safety dearly.

Thank you for your interest in Baldwin Baptist Church.  We pray that you will join us for worship and that Christ will speak to you in a way that would draw you closer to him and would help you to know His love and grace.

Sunday evening

Our procedures for our Sunday evening time together are much the same as those above.  Our schedule on Sunday evening will differ, however.  Our adults will gather in our worship center for a short time of praise and Bible study.  This time will be informal and we welcome anyone who chooses to come.  We provide childcare during this time, if needed.  Our youth will meet separately and will be led by Willie Crump, our youth leader.  We will begin at 6:00 pm and conclude no later than 7:00 pm.

Wednesday evening

We have a large number of children here on Wednesdays due to our bus ministry.  They will gather separately for recreation and Bible study, as will our youth.  Our adults will meet at the same time, 6:30 pm, for a time devoted primarily to prayer.  We will pray for needs in our community as well as our church.  No one will ever be asked to pray unless they are known to be comfortable doing so in public.  All groups will adjourn prior to 7:30 pm.

On the first Wednesday of each month, we gather at 6:00 pm for dinner together.  Everyone brings a dish and we have a great time as we eat and enjoy one another’s company.  All of our regularly scheduled activities are pushed to 7:00 pm on this evening.  As always, we welcome you to join us.
